Announcing my new YA novel!

I've been working on my next YA book -- very eerie and Gothic, sort of a spin-off like Splintered, but not Wonderland related -- and have been itching to tell everyone about it (waiting for the green light from my publisher).

Today they're letting me announce it!

Here's the official blurb from GoodReads (click here to add to your GR shelf):

Yay! The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux is one of my favorite stories of all time. I'm close to the halfway mark in my spin-off, and am having more fun in this lush, dark world than should be legal. ;D

So that you can share in the fun with me, I wanted to show you what's on my bulletin board as a sneak peek. Since I'm a very visual writer, I like to look at my characters as their stories unfold, so I pin up head shots in my office to inspire me.

Even animals, if they play big enough roles, get posted on the board. Although with the Splintered Series, I didn’t have that luxury, since the creatures were born solely of my imagination, and I'm no artist. ;)

With that said, here's most of the cast of RoseBlood, complete with a scowling Cornish Rex cat and a red swan (BTW, my heroine and her dark hero are in the furthest upper left corner).

Soon, I'll do another post and share more insights into the premise and introduce you to some of the characters. So keep checking back!

  1. Ooh Anita, so exciting! Why do we have to wait until 2017 (pouts). Oh, of course--you probably have to finish writing it first! (P.S. Miss you! I promise I will try to get online more often, one day.)

  11. I liked the old woman with the red hair. She looks somber. I LOVE SWANS. A RED SWAN? That is sooo gothic and beautiful and crazy. Kind of reminds me of that Black Swan movie, which is btw, one of my all time favorites... just the creepy feel to it... addicted.

  16. AAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So the author of my favorite series of all time is writing a spin-off/retelling of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE STORY OF ALL TIME??????? I just might die this is so amazing!!!! I saw in a blog post of yours a long time ago that you mentioned that you'd like to do something with Phantom of the Opera, but it was never mentioned again, but you have no idea how excited that made me. I am SOOOOOOOOO happy you are doing this!!!!! You have made my day! I live in Las Vegas and we used to have the musical play at the Venetian and ever since I was a little girl, really as long as I could remember, I was intrigued by the poster and my dream was to see it. One day when I was maybe seven years old I won tickets to see it and I loved it so much! I watched the movie maybe 100 times. I bought the book too but I haven't finished it yet, but so far I love that too. Basically what I'm trying to say is Phantom of the Opera was a big part of my life growing up and it still is. It's become a huge part of my personality as well, so thank you so much for giving me more to love. I haven't been so excited for a book since I finished Unhinged and was waiting for Ensnared(that drove me crazy! But the wait was worth it) So thank you so much! I'm really excited for 2017! You are awesome!
    Sorry this was so long!

    1. Never apologize for leaving long enthusiastic comments! I love reading them! I went to the play at the Venetian, too! It was wonderful. I was sad that they changed the motel's motif and no longer have the Phantom there. :( Can't wait to share the book with you. :D

  17. How thrilling! The Phantom of the Opera captivated me the first time I saw it, and the story is a wonderful take on Beauty and the Beast in some ways. I feel like it's sill to call anything a retelling when everything and all the stories we read are built on the legacy and characters that have come before :)

    1. I agree! It is like Beauty and the Beast. Haha. Truth about "retellings." ;)
