Despite how dated the trailer looks and sounds, after watching the movie again through the eyes of an adult and a YA author, I've found some amazing similarities to today's YA fantasies.
In fact, I'm convinced the Net Generation's teens would find something to enjoy in Labyrinth if they'd give it a chance. Want to know why? Hop over to my guest post to see how this 80's storyline is like a YA novel.
Until then, I'm crawling back into my haitus shell. Have a fantastic weekend! Hope to see you next week -- Monday for some poetry, and then Wednesday for my regularly scheduled blogging day.
TGIF to you Anita!
ReplyDeleteAnd for the record I loved "Labyrinth" although I'm not sure if I would still love it today. Looking forward to your review.
Have a wonderful weekend!
I loved that movie so much as a teenager, and I'm pretty sure I can still sing most of the songs from memory. Looking forward to your post.
ReplyDeleteI watched Labyrinth two weeks ago and loved the way the story was framed with the opening and closing images, they did a great job of showing the change in Sarah from beginning to end. Seriously, it's a really good example of how to tell a story. And that's to say nothing of the fact that Bowie was awesome, the creatures and landscape rocked, and I still love the ballroom scene to death. It's a big inspiration for a story idea I can't stop daydreaming about. Can't wait to read your post!
ReplyDelete- Sophia.
Good luck. See you out of the writing cave! ;>
ReplyDeleteYou remind me of the babe!

love this movie!
Thanks for the TGIF, Sophie applesauce. ;) It's amazing, but I NEVER get tired of this movie, even at my age. I think I'm just a sucker for a really wicked and sexy anti-hero/antagonist. Hee. You have a great weekend, too!
ReplyDeleteSarah~ Haha. Glad to see I'm not the only Labyrinth geek around. Thanks for stopping by!
Hi Sophia~ Ah, so it's fresh on your mind, too, huh? I LOVE the ballroom scene. It's my fave, too. I agree about Sarah's character arc. And yes, Bowie really was swoon worthy in that role, and the music was awesome! Okay, now I'm intrigued about your story idea ... you must write it! Honestly, Jareth inspired the anti-hero in SPLINTERED; he's actually a mix between Jareth and The Crow. Thanks for the support, and have a super weekend!
Thanks Marigold. LOL. I'll need it, seeing as I've never written a movie review in my life. Have a great weekend!
Hi Eliza~ LOL! That's one of my fave scenes. :) The dark humor rocked in this movie. It was almost like a twisted Alice in Wonderland in places, with the riddles and ribbing Sarah endures. Thanks for sharing that great link!
Hey! That's the name of that movie I forgot--I remember watching some of the scenes in that vid when I was really, really young (maybe 6 or 7), and I've wondered about the title ever since! :)
ReplyDeleteHaha. Hi Cherie my dear! So glad I could help. ;) You'll have to let your kiddos watch it someday. Have a lovely weekend!
ReplyDeleteI know I am late but that is my favorite movie in the entire world! I know the words to every song and, I could repeat every line spoken word for word!
ReplyDeleteGirl this really brings back memories, even though we were just looking at the movie last week lol.
It's never too late to show your Labyrinth love, Rene! LOL. Thanks for stopping by. :)
